A Note from the Brothers
We took the brand line off the homepage. Here’s what we actually do.
Lumen Brothers is two Maryland Master Electricians — Josh and Doug — who decided after a combined twenty-plus years on bigger crews that we’d rather own the work than scale it. We pull our own permits. We answer our own phones. The names on the truck are the names on the panel schedule.
We work mostly on the older homes of Frederick County: 1890s brick downtown, mid-century ranches in Walkersville, knob-and-tube farmhouses out toward Jefferson. We do new builds and additions too. What we don’t do is sub it out, hand it to a kid with a meter, or sell you a panel you don’t need.
When we’re not in your basement, we’re recording The Modern Electrician Podcast — talking shop with tradespeople from across the country — or making YouTube explainers about the wiring in your walls. It’s the same instinct: do the work properly, then explain it.

Field Notes
From the people
we’ve wired for
“I found my forever electrical company. Josh exceeded every expectation — showed up when he said he would, did exactly what he said he’d do, and explained the work like I was a partner in it.”
“Detail-oriented in a way you almost never see in the trades anymore. It felt less like hiring a contractor and more like a friend coming over to help with something he happens to be excellent at.”
“Doug talked me out of an upgrade I didn’t need. I appreciated the honesty enough that we hired them back twice for the things we did need.”
How a Job Goes
A schedule that respects your day.
-
Step 01
Call or write
You ring (301) 525-7800 or email Doug. A real person reads it; usually within the same day.
-
Step 02
Site visit
We come look. Free, on a calendar that’s honest about when we’re actually free.
-
Step 03
Fixed-price quote
Written, itemized, no “from $” weasel pricing. Permits and disposal included.
-
Step 04
We do the work
An owner runs the job. Same truck, same boots, same name on the invoice.
Off the Clock
We host the Modern Electrician Podcast — and run a YouTube channel for the homeowners who want to know what’s actually in their walls.
Both are free, both are honest. If you want to know how to tell knob-and-tube from BX, or whether you really need a 200-amp panel, we have a video for that.
Now on the feed
“Why Federal Pacific panels are still in 30% of Frederick’s 70s-era homes — and what to do about it.”
